Indelible by Karin Slaughter

IndelibleReviewed by Julie Moderson

This is the first book by Karin Slaughter that I have read and I will definitely be reading more. Slaughter is wonderful at telling a story that will have you not wanting to put the book down; you are sucked into the book and are fascinated with the characters. I believe this is part of a series and I did not have any problem following the story. I can’t wait to go back and read the earlier books to find out more about Jeffrey Tolliver and Sara Linton.

The book starts with two young men going into the police station in Heartsdale, Georgia where they open fire with some high-powered weapons and wearing bulletproof vests when the smoke clears one officer is dead and the Police Chief Jeffrey Tolliver is seriously injured. A class of young children has the misfortune of being on a tour of the police station when the shooting happened. The children are terrified and one of the officers tries to keep them calm and out of harms way. Sara Linton is a pediatrician and the town medical examiner; her ex-husband is the injured police chief. She searches for answers by looking at their past and tries to figure a way out so she can save her ex-husband.

The story flashes back to when Sara and Jeffrey were first dating and he took her back to his hometown and Sara began to understand who Jeffrey was and why he became a police officer and how his hometown misjudged him. Now it seems as if the past has caught up to Jeffrey.
