Whiplash River by Lou Berney
I wasn’t so sure about Whiplash River to begin with but as I continued I was hooked on Berney’s style of writing, how his characters come to life and how you are so drawn into the book. I think that was due to the fact that I read Gunshot Straight quite a while ago. This is a sequel book but I believe it is not necessary to read the first book before this one.
Shake left his criminal life and has reinvented himself on the island of Belize. He owns his own restaurant and loves running it until a resort next to his restaurant becomes all-inclusive and his sales plummet. His biggest mistake is that he borrowed money from a drug lord. When Shake’s restaurant explodes he realizes that someone is trying to kill him and he runs to a friend who helps him escape Belize.
This is an excellent book that takes you on an adventure you won’t forget.
